CLAT 2027: dates, registration, exam day, result and counselling

The cycle, in order

Six stages, and you are somewhere in the middle of them. The dates below are read from the Consortium's own notification where one exists; where it does not, the stage says "estimated" and names what it was estimated from. The CLAT 2027 press release is the primary source.

   CLAT 2027 is conducted on Sunday, 2026-12-06, 14:00–16:00 IST.

   The provisional answer key and, subsequently, results are released via the Consortium portal.

   Counselling registration and preference-filling open after results are declared.

Registration closes 31 October 2026

This is the deadline that actually costs people a year. The form has to be submitted and paid by 11:59 pm on the closing date — a form that is filled but unpaid is not an application.

Two things go wrong often enough to plan around. Payments fail at the gateway and leave the money debited with no application recorded, which usually resolves itself in three to five working days but not always. And category certificates get rejected at the verification stage for being in the wrong format or out of date — an OBC-NCL certificate in particular has a validity window, and one issued for a previous financial year will not do.

Exam day

The paper is offline, 120 minutes, 120 questions across five sections, marked +1 for a correct answer and -0.25 for a wrong one, with nothing deducted for a question left alone. The window is 14:00–16:00 IST.

Reporting time, the document list and what is not allowed inside the hall are printed on the admit card, and the admit card is the only version of those rules that binds. After the paper: answer key, objections, result

The Consortium publishes a provisional answer key and opens a window for objections, each of which carries a fee that is refunded if the objection is upheld. Raising an objection is worth doing only with the source in hand. "This looks wrong" is not an objection; "the passage states X at line 4, so option B cannot follow" is. Successful objections change the key for everyone, which is why the fee exists.

Counselling

Counselling runs in rounds. At each round you either accept a seat and freeze, accept and stay in the queue for an upgrade, or exit. The mechanics matter more than most aspirants realise: freezing early removes you from later rounds, and exiting forfeits a refund component in some years.
