CLAT 2027 Registration — Step-by-Step Process & Dates
The CLAT 2027 registration process is entirely online, conducted through the Consortium of NLUs portal. A correctly filled application is your entry ticket to the exam — and by extension, to 26 National Law Universities across India. Every year, hundreds of candidates face issues at the application stage: rejected photographs, payment failures, name mismatches that haunt them through counselling. This page walks you through the entire registration process, document requirements, fee structure, and important dates, so you get it right the first time.
As of 19 September 2026: dates and fees below are from the Consortium press release for CLAT 2027 (22 July 2026) and UG instructions. Anything we could not confirm there is marked as being verified. Always cross-check on consortiumofnlus.ac.in before applying.

Key Dates & Timeline
Registration for CLAT 2027 is open from 3 August to 31 October 2026 (11:59 pm), per the Consortium. Dates the Consortium has not yet announced are marked as being verified.
Do not wait until the last week to register. The Consortium portal experiences heavy traffic near the deadline, leading to slow loading, payment gateway timeouts, and OTP delays. Aim to complete your registration within the first two weeks of the window opening.
Step-by-Step Registration Process
The CLAT application is completed in a single online sitting, though you can save your progress and return later. Here is each step in detail, so you know exactly what to expect before you begin.
Visit the Consortium Portal & Create an Account
Go to consortiumofnlus.ac.in and open the CLAT 2027 UG application. Create an account with a valid email address and an active mobile number, and save your login credentials. You will need them to complete the application and to download your admit card.
Enter Personal & Academic Details
Fill in your personal information: full name (exactly as it appears on your Class 12 marksheet — this is critical), date of birth, gender, category (General/SC/ST/OBC/PwD), parent or guardian details, correspondence address, and permanent address. For academic details, enter your Class 10 and Class 12 board, year of passing (or expected year), and marks or percentage. Appearing candidates should select "Appearing" and enter their school details.
Upload Documents — Photo & Signature
Upload your photograph and scanned signature in the format and size the portal specifies (we have not confirmed the exact limits, so follow the portal). If applicable, upload your category certificate issued by the competent authority.
Select Programme & Exam Centre Preferences
Choose your programme: UG (5-year integrated LLB) or PG (LLM). Then select your exam centre city preferences in order of priority, as the portal allows. The number of preferences and the list of test cities are set by the Consortium; check the portal for the current list.
Pay the Application Fee
The application fee is Rs. 4,000 for General/OBC candidates and Rs. 3,500 for SC/ST/BPL/PwD candidates. It is non-refundable and non-adjustable. Payment is online through the portal's gateway. If a transaction fails or times out, check your application status before paying again.
Download Confirmation Page & Save Application Number
After payment, save or print whatever confirmation the portal shows, and note your application details separately. You will need your login to download your admit card and for later correspondence with the Consortium. Keep offline copies.
Documents Required
Gather all documents before you begin the application. Uploading incorrect or improperly formatted files is one of the most common causes of application issues. Here is the complete list with specifications.
Passport-Size Photograph
Recent, clear photograph in the format and size shown on the application portal (exact specifications being verified). No sunglasses, caps, or filters.
Scanned Signature
Scanned signature on white paper, in the format and size shown on the application portal (exact specifications being verified). Keep it consistent with what you will use on exam day.
Class 10 Certificate
Passing certificate or marksheet from your Class 10 board. This is used to verify your date of birth and name. Ensure the name matches exactly across all documents.
Class 12 Marksheet or Appearing Certificate
Final marksheet if you have completed Class 12, or a bonafide/appearing certificate from your school if you are a current Class 12 student appearing in 2027.
Category Certificate (if applicable)
SC/ST certificate, OBC Non-Creamy Layer certificate (must be recently dated, within validity period), or PwD certificate issued by the competent authority. Without a valid certificate, you will be treated as General category.
Domicile Certificate (if applicable)
Individual NLUs may ask for domicile certificates for state-quota seats at admission. Check each NLU's admission notice.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Every CLAT cycle, the Consortium helpdesk is flooded with queries that could have been avoided with a little care during registration. Here are the most frequent mistakes candidates make — and how to avoid them.
Name Mismatch Between Application and Documents
Your name in the CLAT application must exactly match the name on your Class 12 marksheet. Even small discrepancies — initials vs. full name, a missing middle name, or a spelling variation — can create problems during document verification at the counselling stage. If your Class 10 and Class 12 certificates have different name spellings, ask your school or board to fix it early.
Wrong Photo Size, Format, or Quality
Check the format and size limits shown on the portal before you upload, and use a recent, clear, front-facing photograph. It is used for identification, so a poor image can cause problems at the centre.
Not Saving Your Application Details
Your login and application details are needed for the admit card and later correspondence. Save them in more than one place, and keep any confirmation the portal generates.
Relying on a Correction Window
Whether a correction window will be offered for CLAT 2027 is being verified. Do not count on one: review every field before you submit, and watch the Consortium's notifications page.
Payment Failure and Panic Re-payment
If your payment fails mid-transaction, the amount may still be debited from your account. Check your application status on the portal before paying again, to avoid a double debit. If the issue persists, contact the Consortium helpdesk with your transaction reference number.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about the CLAT 2027 registration process, application fees, correction window, payment modes, and document requirements.
What is the CLAT 2027 application fee?
The CLAT 2027 UG application fee is Rs. 4,000 for General/OBC candidates and Rs. 3,500 for SC/ST/BPL/PwD candidates, per the Consortium's UG instructions. The fee is non-refundable and non-adjustable. Bank transaction charges, if any, are shown on the payment gateway page.
Is the CLAT application fee refundable?
No. The Consortium's UG instructions state that the application fee is non-refundable and non-adjustable. For a failed transaction where the amount was debited, contact the Consortium helpdesk with your transaction reference.
Can I apply for CLAT 2027 more than once?
No. The Consortium does not allow multiple applications from the same candidate. If you submit more than one application, all your applications may be cancelled. If you need to make changes after submission, use the correction window provided by the Consortium rather than submitting a new application.
What is the CLAT 2027 correction window?
Being verified — check consortiumofnlus.ac.in. We have not found a correction window for CLAT 2027 in the notification or UG instructions we have read. Check the Consortium's notifications page for any correction facility and its dates.
What payment modes are accepted for CLAT registration?
Payment is made online through the gateway on the application portal, and the modes offered are shown on the gateway page. If your payment fails mid-transaction, check your application status before paying again. If the amount was debited but the application shows unpaid, raise a query with the Consortium helpdesk.
What happens if I forget my CLAT application number?
Save your application details as soon as you submit. If you lose your login details, use the account-recovery option on the Consortium portal, or contact the Consortium helpdesk. Use a valid, active email address and mobile number so you can receive official communication.
Can I change my exam centre after submitting the application?
Being verified — check consortiumofnlus.ac.in. The rules for changing exam centre preferences after submission are not stated in the pages we have read. Check the Consortium's notifications page, and choose your preferences carefully when applying.
What photo and signature specifications does CLAT require?
Being verified — check consortiumofnlus.ac.in. The exact photograph and signature specifications (format, size, dimensions) are shown on the application portal at the time of upload. Follow those, not figures quoted on third-party sites.
Do I need to send any documents by post to the Consortium?
No. The entire CLAT registration process is online. You do not need to send any physical documents to the Consortium of NLUs. All documents are uploaded digitally during the application process. Physical document verification happens only during the counselling and admission process at individual NLUs after the results are declared.
Can I register for CLAT using someone else's email or phone number?
It is strongly advised against. All official communication — including your admit card, result, and counselling notifications — is sent to the registered email and phone number. Using someone else's contact details risks missing critical updates. Additionally, OTP verification during registration and login requires access to the registered mobile number. Always use your own active email and phone number.

What is not confirmed yet, as at 20 September 2026: photo and signature specifications, whether there is a correction window, exam-centre preferences and the rules for changing them, payment modes, and the test-city list. What will settle it: the Consortium’s CLAT 2027 Information Brochure and its test-day instructions. We re-check this page when the test-day instructions are published, usually with the admit card in November.
