When it comes out, and how to score yourself
CLAT 2027 is sat on Sunday, 6 December 2026, 14:00–16:00 IST. The Consortium of NLUs publishes a provisional answer key a few days later, opens a short window for objections, then issues the final key with the result. This page will carry the key and the link to the official PDF as soon as the Consortium releases it. Until then, here is what happened last year, what it points to this year, and how to work out your score the moment the key is out.

When to expect the key
No CLAT 2027 date for the key, the objection window or the result has been notified yet. The CLAT 2026 cycle is the best guide, and its dates come from the Consortium’s own notifications:

The right-hand column is last year’s gaps applied to this year’s exam date. It is a planning guide, not a date the Consortium has given. The CLAT 2027 live status page changes the moment a date is notified.
Before you leave the exam hall
You can only check yourself against the key if you kept what you marked. The CLAT 2026 booklet told candidates to keep the question booklet and the candidate’s copy of the OMR sheet after the test, and answers went on a separate carbonised OMR Response Sheet, supplied with the booklet. Check your CLAT 2027 admit card and booklet for this year’s instructions.
Note your booklet series. The CLAT 2026 paper came in 4 series, and its answer key notification set out all 4. Score yourself against the key for your own series, or every number you get will be wrong.
How to calculate your score
The marking scheme is fixed by the Consortium: +1 for each right answer, -0.25 for each wrong one and 0 for a question left blank, across 120 questions.
- Find the key for your booklet series.
- Go through your copy of the OMR sheet and mark each answer right, wrong or blank.
- Score = right × 1 − wrong × 0.25.
Worked example. You attempted 96 questions and 78 match the key, so 18 are wrong. Your score is 78 − 18 × 0.25 = 73.5 out of 120. Every 4 wrong answers cost one right one.

Section by section, the CLAT 2027 paper has roughly 22–26 questions of English Language, 28–32 questions of Current Affairs and GK, 28–32 questions of Legal Reasoning, 22–26 questions of Logical Reasoning, 10–14 questions of Quantitative Techniques. In the CLAT 2026 booklet they ran in that order: English Language Q1–24, Current Affairs and GK Q25–52, Legal Reasoning Q53–82, Logical Reasoning Q83–108, Quantitative Techniques Q109–120.
Challenging the key
If you think an answer in the provisional key is wrong, you can object before the window closes. For CLAT 2026:
- The portal opened at 5:00 pm on 10 December 2025 and closed at 5:00 pm on 12 December 2025, a window of 2 days.
- Each objection cost ₹500, refunded if the objection was sustained.
- The final key came out with the result on 16 December 2025, and the paper was evaluated out of 119 marks rather than 120.
The window is short, so read the key the day it comes out. Object only where you can show from the passage or the question itself why the key is wrong. The CLAT 2027 fee and timings will be in the notification that comes with the key.
After the final key: rank and ties
The result gives your marks and your All India Rank. Where two candidates have the same marks, the Consortium breaks the tie by higher marks in Legal Reasoning, then higher age, then computerised draw of lots. What the rank means for each NLU is on the CLAT 2027 result page and the NLU cutoffs from the last counselling.

One email when the Consortium publishes the CLAT 2027 provisional key, with the link to it and to the score calculator. Nothing else.
Questions
When will the CLAT 2027 answer key be released?
The Consortium has not notified a date yet. Last cycle, CLAT 2026 was sat on 7 December 2025 and the provisional key came out on 10 December 2025, 3 days later. The same gap after the 6 December 2026 paper points to about 9 December 2026. Treat that as an estimate until the Consortium announces it.
How do I calculate my CLAT 2027 score from the answer key?
Count your right and wrong answers against the key for your booklet series. Each right answer is +1, each wrong answer -0.25, and a blank is 0. For example, 78 right and 18 wrong out of 96 attempted gives 78 − 18 × 0.25 = 73.5.
How much does it cost to challenge the CLAT answer key?
For CLAT 2026 the fee was ₹500 per objection, refunded if the objection was sustained, and the window ran for 2 days (5:00 pm 10 December 2025 to 5:00 pm 12 December 2025). The CLAT 2027 fee and window will be in the Consortium's notification that comes with the key.
Why does my answer key not match my booklet?
The CLAT 2026 paper was printed in 4 series, and the Consortium's answer key notification covered each of them. Use the key for the series printed on your own booklet; checking against another series gives a wrong score.
When is the final answer key and the result?
For CLAT 2026 the final key and the result came out on the same day, 16 December 2025, 9 days after the exam. That cycle's paper was evaluated out of 119 marks rather than 120, per the final-key notification. The same gap for CLAT 2027 points to about 15 December 2026, again an estimate.
