What the dropper batch is

Some students finish CLAT 2027 with a score that does not get them the NLU they wanted, or any NLU. Some are ready to try again and would rather spend a year preparing than take a seat they do not want. The dropper batch is for them.

It is a separate batch, not a seat in a school-year course. Everyone in it is preparing full-time, so the classes can run at a pace and a time of day that suit that. It is kept to one batch of 20 so that faculty and mentors know every student’s history, including what went wrong the first time.

The batch starts in February 2027. That gives time after the CLAT 2027 results for counselling rounds to settle, so students who miss out on a seat, or decide against the one they are offered, can still join from the beginning.

Is a drop year the right call?

A drop year works when the gap between your score and your target is a skills gap you can close with time. It works badly when the gap is about the day itself, or when you would be repeating the same preparation.

• It tends to work if your mock scores were rising steadily towards the exam, if you ran out of time in the paper, or if one or two sections held your total down.
• It is riskier if your scores had flattened well below your target, or if you are dropping mainly because of pressure from others.
• Either way, it only works if the second year is different from the first: a clear diagnosis of what went wrong, and a plan aimed at exactly that.

Keeping a gap year steady

A drop year is long and can be lonely. Friends have moved on to college, and every mock score feels like a verdict. A small batch helps: the same twenty people, working towards the same exam, with a mentor who checks in on more than scores.

Structure matters as much as content. Regular class times, a weekly rhythm of practice and review, and planned rest are part of the course design, not extras.

CLAT 2028 and the pattern question

The CLAT Expert Committee has proposed a new three-section pattern without General Knowledge. It has not been adopted for 2028. The batch prioritises reading, legal reasoning and argument analysis, which appear in both versions, and it will follow any decision the Consortium makes. See the CLAT 2028 page.

Fees and seats

The indicative fee is ₹75,000 for the full programme, the same as the one-year course. There are 20 seats. Registering interest costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Refund terms are published with the final fee, before any payment is taken.
