The descriptive section: the Consortium’s own pages disagree
This is worth knowing before you plan a single hour of preparation. The Consortium’s PG question-format page lists two essays of twenty-five marks each, eight hundred words apiece. Its PG syllabus page says there will be no descriptive section in PG-CLAT 2027.
Both are official pages on the same site. Neither is reproduced here as the answer, because one of them is wrong and we cannot tell you which. Until the Consortium reconciles them, prepare on the assumption that a descriptive section may appear — writing practice is not wasted even if it does not — and check the question-format page again before December.

What CLAT PG actually asks of you
The objective paper is a hundred and twenty one-mark questions in two hours, with a quarter mark off for a wrong answer — the same marking arithmetic as the UG paper, and the same conclusion: eliminate one option and attempting becomes profitable.
The syllabus is Constitutional Law plus, in the Consortium’s own listing, Jurisprudence, Administrative Law, Contract, Torts, Family, Criminal, Property, Company, Public International, Tax, Environmental and Labour and Industrial Law. That is most of an LL.B. in one paper, which is why breadth beats depth: a candidate who knows nine areas competently outscores one who knows three thoroughly.
The questions are passage-based, as the UG paper is. That matters more than the syllabus list. You are not being asked to recall a section number; you are being asked to read an extract and reason within it. Candidates who prepare by memorising bare acts tend to underperform candidates who practise reading unfamiliar legal prose quickly.
What is proposed to change
The Expert Committee has proposed a substantially different PG paper: three sections shared with the UG paper, plus a multiple-choice Legal Knowledge section on developments in the preceding two calendar years, plus a constructed-response Problem Question section in which you solve one of three legal problems, marked by individual NLUs for candidates shortlisted on their MCQ scores.
None of that has been adopted. The Governing Body froze the PG pattern for 2027 along with the UG one. What it means for 2028 is on the CLAT 2028 page.
