The facts, each with its source
CLAT PG is the LL.M. entrance test of the Consortium of NLUs, held on the same afternoon as CLAT UG. For 2027 it is a single objective paper.

The descriptive section: none for 2027
As read on 10 October 2026, the Consortium’s PG question-format page shows only the 120 objective questions, and its PG syllabus page carries the update: “There will be no descriptive section in PG-CLAT 2027.” (The question-format page’s source code still holds an older essay row, but it is commented out and does not appear on the page.)
So CLAT PG 2027 is a single objective paper. Writing practice still helps with the comprehension-based questions, but there are no essays to prepare. Check the Consortium’s pages again before December in case the format changes.
What CLAT PG actually asks of you
The objective paper is a hundred and twenty one-mark questions in two hours, with a quarter mark off for a wrong answer — the same marking arithmetic as the UG paper, and the same conclusion: eliminate one option and attempting becomes profitable.
The syllabus is Constitutional Law plus, in the Consortium’s own listing, Jurisprudence, Administrative Law, Contract, Torts, Family, Criminal, Property, Company, Public International, Tax, Environmental and Labour and Industrial Law. That is most of an LL.B. in one paper, which is why breadth beats depth: a candidate who knows nine areas competently outscores one who knows three thoroughly.
The questions are passage-based, as the UG paper is. That matters more than the syllabus list. You are not being asked to recall a section number; you are being asked to read an extract and reason within it. Candidates who prepare by memorising bare acts tend to underperform candidates who practise reading unfamiliar legal prose quickly.
What is proposed to change
The Expert Committee has proposed a substantially different PG paper: three sections shared with the UG paper, plus a multiple-choice Legal Knowledge section on developments in the preceding two calendar years, plus a constructed-response Problem Question section in which you solve one of three legal problems, marked by individual NLUs for candidates shortlisted on their MCQ scores.
None of that has been adopted. The Governing Body froze the PG pattern for 2027 along with the UG one. What it means for 2028 is on the CLAT 2028 page.

Frequently asked questions
When is CLAT PG 2027?
Sunday 6 December 2026, 2:00 to 4:00 pm, with PwD candidates given until 4:40 pm. The Consortium notes this is subject to revision in case of necessity. It is the same day as the UG paper.
What is the eligibility for CLAT PG?
An LL.B. or equivalent with 50 per cent, or 45 per cent for SC, ST and PwD candidates. There is no upper age limit. Candidates completing the qualifying examination in 2027 may apply and produce proof of passing at admission.

Rs. 4,000 for General, OBC and NRI candidates, and Rs. 3,500 for SC, ST, BPL and PwD candidates, as printed on the Consortium’s PG pages.
Are CLAT PG cutoffs published on this site?
Not yet. The PG allotment lists have not been read. When they are, they will appear with a link to the document for every figure, as the UG ones do.
