The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports that Kolkata Police paraded three men in a semi-nude condition, with ropes tied around their waists, through a public road. According to the reports relied on by the Commission, an 18-year-old and his 19-year-old friend were beaten and humiliated at a house after being seen with a minor girl, and the younger man's father, summoned to the house, was also assaulted; the three were then reportedly stripped and forced to walk at gunpoint. A separate report of 28 October 2026 said police later brought three arrested persons, including the girl's father, to the same spot and made them walk shirtless and barefoot for over 100 metres, reportedly to reconstruct the alleged crime scene.

The Commission observed that the reports, if true, raise serious issues of violation of human rights, and issued a notice to the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, seeking a detailed report on the matter within two weeks of the release, dated 29 October 2026. The press release does not record any further directions, findings or outcome at this stage; the matter remains before the Commission pending the police report.
