Where the Constitution was made

The domed Central Hall of the old Parliament House, then called the Constitution Hall, hosted the sittings of the Constituent Assembly from 1946 to 1950 and the midnight session of 14–15 August 1947. It later served for joint sittings of Parliament and the President's address.

Panchteerth: Five Sites of Dr Ambedkar

Mhow, London, Nagpur, Delhi, Mumbai

The Government of India has developed five places linked to Dr Ambedkar as the "Panchteerth": his birthplace at Mhow (now Dr Ambedkar Nagar), Madhya Pradesh; the house in London where he lived as a student; Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur, where he embraced Buddhism on 14 October 1956; the Mahaparinirvan Sthal at 26 Alipur Road, Delhi, where he died; and Chaitya Bhoomi in Mumbai, where he was cremated.

Statue of Social Justice

Vijayawada

A 125-foot statue of Dr Ambedkar, called the Statue of Social Justice, was unveiled in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, in January 2024. Hyderabad unveiled a 125-foot Ambedkar statue in April 2023. They are among the tallest statues of Ambedkar in the world.

Runnymede

Where Magna Carta was sealed

The meadow of Runnymede, beside the Thames near Windsor, is where King John sealed Magna Carta in June 1215. A memorial built by the American Bar Association (1957) stands there, together with a memorial to President John F. Kennedy.

The Cellular Jail, Port Blair

Kala Pani

Completed in 1906, the Cellular Jail in Port Blair held political prisoners in solitary cells, including V.D. Savarkar and Batukeshwar Dutt, and was synonymous with "Kala Pani" (black waters) — transportation to the Andamans. It is now a National Memorial.
