Supreme Court-ordered enquiry committee on Jantar Mantar violence opens a complaints portal
The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that the High Powered Enquiry Committee (HPEC), which the Supreme Court of India constituted to enquire into all aspects of incidents of violence at Jantar Mantar, Delhi, and at places outside Delhi during July 2026, has launched an online portal, hpec.nic.in, for affected persons to submit complaints and representations. This includes affected police personnel as well as other affected persons. The release states that the HPEC is to examine all issues listed in paragraphs 12 and 13 of the Supreme Court's order dated 18 August 2026 and paragraph 5(i) of its order dated 10 September 2026, with priority given to matters concerning the use of pellet guns, targeted violence and harassment of female protestors, and excessive violence and destruction of property occasioned on either side.
The portal is designed to protect vulnerable witnesses and to keep identities confidential where a complainant so wishes. Persons unable to use the portal may submit complaints and supporting material in person at the HPEC's office at Shiksha Sadan, Rouse Avenue, New Delhi, between 1400 and 1600 hours on working days, or send them by post or email to the committee's designated address.
